Powers Assessment Center

Powers Assessment Center: Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation

The diagnostic process at Powers Educational Services is the bedrock of our personalized approach. We move beyond surface-level observations to uncover the "how" and "why" behind a student’s academic performance. By utilizing gold-standard clinical and educational assessments, we provide families with the empirical data needed to make informed decisions and secure necessary support.

The Diagnostic Toolkit

Our clinicians utilize a sophisticated battery of standardized instruments tailored to the specific needs of the student, including:

  • Cognitive & Intelligence Scales: The Wechsler Intelligence Scale (WISC-V, WAIS-IV) to determine IQ and cognitive profiles.
  • Achievement Testing: The Woodcock-Johnson IV (WJ-IV) and Gray Oral/Silent Reading Tests to measure core academic competencies.
  • Behavioral & Attentional Screeners: The IVA-2 CPT for ADHD/ADD screening, alongside Brown and Vanderbilt Scales for comprehensive behavioral insights.

Strategic Objectives of Assessment

We recognize that every family arrives with different questions. Our evaluations are designed to fulfill a wide variety of professional and personal requirements:

Objective
Outcome & Utility
Gifted & Talented Identification
Providing the verified IQ and achievement data required for admission into competitive gifted and enrichment programs.
IEP & 504 Plan Documentation
Identifying specific cognitive or achievement deficits to support requests for formal accommodations, such as extended time or modified testing environments.
Functional Limitations Verification
Producing and verifying documented functional limitations where appropriate, ensuring that a student's specific barriers to learning are clearly defined for educational and clinical advocacy.
Learning Modality Profiling
Determining a student's unique "learning style" to equip parents and teachers with specific techniques that align with their natural processing strengths.
Clinical Clarity
Assessing strengths and weaknesses to help distinguish between environmental challenges and underlying learning disabilities or attentional disorders.

Our Collaborative Process

Our methodology ensures that data is never presented in a vacuum; it is always translated into an actionable strategy.

  1.  Clinical Interview: A deep-dive conference with our Director to establish the scope of the evaluation.
  2.  Bespoke Assessment Plan: We select the specific tests (e.g., WISC-V vs. WJ-IV) that will yield the most relevant data for your goals.
  3.  Expert Administration: Testing is conducted in a focused, one-to-one environment to ensure the most accurate results
  4.  Synthesis & Reporting: Our Psychologist and Director collaborate to synthesize raw data into a comprehensive Treatment Plan.
  5.  Client Results Conference: A final meeting to walk you through the report, ensuring you leave with a clear understanding of the findings and a professional roadmap for your student's future.
